Medical Records Indexing through AI: Webinar presented by DataBank

AI Readiness

Hopefully, we can reduce what we’re sure is a massive amount of FOMO from missing our latest webinar regarding structuring ambulatory data and the current healthcare landscape with guests: Dave Butler, MD FAMIA of Calyx Partners and independent consultant Joanne Vaul. The webinar goes in-depth to explain the current state of healthcare as well as a multiple use case solution for indexing medical records.

Here are our three main takeaways from the webinar:

1. Healthcare has its cracks too. The response from industry professionals is crucial.

Dr. Butler, a physician by trade, analyzed the healthcare industry in its current state, including cracks shown in the landscape from burnout to staffing to technology. Ultimately, he noted that the data health systems belong to patients and they deserve and need that access, but how do we get to that point without available staff and an already tired physician and staff environment in the healthcare space?

2. Far too many people are touching documents before it’s loaded into an EHR.

Jim Erb, Director of Professional Services for DataBank Healthcare, discussed the latest effort of a major mid-Atlantic health system to systematically use AI and machine learning to automate its healthcare record indexing process and ensure all patient data is available and ready to go in their EHR for physicians and patients.

3. Results are more than just numbers.

Joanne Vaul was able to take her turn to talk through what became of the above pilot with the health system. Results are seen from cost savings, to cost per doc, to time, and more, but even more importantly, Dr. Butler noted that there are intangible benefits to ensuring a medical record is indexed correctly and quickly without additional bodies needed.
