The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) states that ransomware attacks can “severely impact business processes” leaving organizations without the valuable information that helps them make business decisions and serve customers.

When considering the cloud, can you be sure your content is safe?

Yes. That’s the short answer.

Standard security practices can be easier in the cloud.

Vulnerabilities are always a possibility. Just like with on-prem, applying patches and keeping your systems up-to-date is the same in the cloud, but they may be managed by your cloud provider or third-party vendor. Remember the WannaCry attack?

Ransomware is easier to defend in the cloud.

1. 1. Make sure you have backups.
   2. Make sure you test your backups.
   3. Make sure your backups are protected.

In the cloud, you have the option of immutable backups. To break down this buzzword🐝, really we mean, the data can be written once, but it can never be changed.

A cloud provider like AWS offers this feature. Your backup can never be encrypted by a ransomware attack, and you won’t have to purchase some additional WORM hardware device that you’ll end up having to buy used parts for.

With cloud, you can also take server snapshots, have them tested regularly, and then backed up. Not to mention, the ability to stand up new server hardware only requires a few clicks.

It’s just easier.
