The importance of principles in business from CEO, Matt Charlson

Modern Technology Application

Here at DataBank, we believe culture rules everything. A good organizational strategy, planning, and ideas will not see the light of day if the culture does not allow for teamwork and Collaboration. Some organizational goals are easy to see and define. It can be as simple as a number on a scorecard where you quickly know if you have attained it or not. Culture, on the other hand, is easy to see but very hard to define. You might know the culture is good (or not) but what specifically made that happen?

A principle can be viewed as a behavior we look for above all else. To ensure all of our teammates know what is expected of them in order to contribute to a great culture, like any other organizational goal, we have defined a set of principles that we intend to adhere to.

Here’s a quick look at our principles:

Principle 1: Be Present

If you dedicate time to someone, then be engaged in the conversation. A good reminder in this time of constant Virtual meetings!

Principle 2: Make the Decision

Healthy discussion and debate are great. But after, make a decision and move forward as a team.

Principle 3: Keep your Promises

Do what you say you are going to do when you say you are going to do it.

Principle 4: Take Action

If you see a problem, don’t wait. Fix it.

Principle 5: Obsess about Customers

Understand the customer, their challenges, and their goals. Don’t ever forget we are here for them! Sure, the overwhelming majority of our team lives the principles every day. That is of course why we feel we have the best people on the planet! Yet, we are all human and we can always use the reminder and clarity. It also allows us to set expectations on Day 1 for our new team members.

Given the ever-changing world, we are living in today, having a set of guiding principles that stay with you through all of the uncertainty is more important than ever. I am constantly impressed by our passion and spirit, for each other and for our customers. I feel proud to work alongside this team! We’re excited to continue sharing more about our principles along with success stories from customers and DataBankers who have made them guiding forces in their work.

Sincerely,

Matt Charlson
